Between Monday 10 July 2023 and Friday 14 July 2023, the University of Sunderland's summer graduations will take place at the Stadium of Light. So get ready to celebrate!

Here’s what you need to know about what, where, and when everything is happening.

Which day and time is my ceremony?

Monday 10 July

9.30am: Faculty of Technology (School of Computing and School of Engineering)

3pm: Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries (School of Art and Design and School of Media and Communications)

Tuesday 11 July 

9.30am: Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing (School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences)

3pm: Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing (School of Nursing and Health Sciences and School of Medicine)

Wednesday 12 July

9.30am: Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing (School of Psychology and School of Nursing and Health Sciences)  

3pm: Faculty of Education and Society (School of Education (excluding IL Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Education)

Thursday 13 July

9.30am: Faculty of Education and Society (School of Education (IL Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Education only​​​) and School of Social Sciences) 

3pm: Faculty of Business, Law and Tourism (School of Business and Management)

Friday 14 July

9.30am: Faculty of Business, Law and Tourism (School of Business and Management)

3pm: Faculty of Business, Law and Tourism (School of Law and Tourism) 

Will I be going on stage?

Yes, of course, each graduating student will have their name read out and will go up on the stage. Certificates will be later sent out to you.

Will there be honorary guests graduating?

Yes, we will have special guests throughout the week. Keep an eye out for updates! 

Will there be a photographer there?

Yes, you will be able to get your official photograph done on the day.

We will also have a photographer there documenting the day, and you can see the pictures on Instagram: sunderlanduniversitynews

How long does each ceremony take?

It will depend, usually somewhere between 45 minutes and 80 minutes.

What about parking?

There is plenty of parking at the Stadium of Light which, at the minute, remains free. 

What if I am coming on public transport?

The nearest Metro station is either the Stadium of Light or St Peter's depending on which direction you are coming from. There is also a regular bus service between the University and the Stadium.

Free ice cream for graduates

We'll be rolling out the ice cream carts outside the main entrance of the Stadium after the graduation ceremonies, from 11am-12:30pm and from 4pm-5:30pm. You can register here and show the ice cream staff the confirmation email for your free treat.

Competition time

It's time to celebrate the Class of 2023 and we're giving away six exciting prizes. Three lucky winners will get £50 Amazon vouchers and three more winners will receive University hoodies. You need to register before 9 July to enter the prize draw. ​​​​​​​

Pin badges - Wear your pin with pride

When you arrive at the Stadium, you will be greeted at by our alumni team who will give you your graduation brochure and a free University pin badge - a perfect keepsake for your special day.

Who's ready to celebrate graduation day at the Magic Moments Bar? You can make use of a beautiful flower wall and photo booth props to commemorate your special day - plus, there will be free sweets to sweeten the deal.

Stage Clip Video

Stage Clip captures a video of the moment you cross the stage and receive your award. Your personalised video will feature your name, graduation date and degree award. You will receive an email after your ceremony containing a link to download your StageClip.


There will be plenty of photo opportunities for you around the Stadium to take your photos. Share your shots, chats and videos on social media using the hashtag #WeAreSun and congratulate friends and fellow alumni.
