Health and Social Science subjects at Sunderland take their place among the world’s leading universities.
The University of Sunderland has strengthened its global standing once again in the 2024 edition of The Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject.
The World University Rankings data sees Sunderland’s best performance in ‘Clinical and Health’, which includes Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy, ranking between 801–1,000, as well as Social Science, which covers programmes across both the Faculty of Education and Society and the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries, where it ranked 601-800.
The rankings provide authoritative comparative analysis of the performance of more than 15,000 individual university programs at 1,904 universities in 108 locations around the world.
The subject tables draw on performance indicators used in the overall in the World University Rankings 2024, brought together with scores provided under categories such as: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook and Industry.
This is the third year in a row that Sunderland subjects have been placed in the world subject rankings.
This latest ranking also comes on the back of a successful few years for the University. Just last month the University was named as one of the top universities in Europe, according to the first ever edition of the QS World University Rankings: Europe 2024.
For the first time ever, Sunderland made it into the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023. The University was ranked between 1,001-1,200 out of 1,799 Institutions across the world.
The result also comes after the University was ranked number 50th in the Guardian University Guide 2023 - a rise of 42 places compared to the previous year.
And in 2021, Sunderland was nominated for University of the Year in the Times Higher Education Awards in 2021, as well as being named University of the Year for social inclusion in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021.
