The Chancellor of the University of Sunderland, award-winning musician Emeli Sandé, is set to take a starring role on television.

The singer and songwriter, who became the University's Chancellor in 2019, will feature as part of Channel 4's 'My Grandparents' War' on Thursday 29 September, 8pm.

In the programme, Emeli explores her grandparents' remarkable war stories which span World War II, the Mau Mau insurgency in Kenya, and the fight for independence in Zambia.

Emeli moved with her family from Sunderland to Aberdeenshire in Scotland when she was four. She attended the University of Glasgow, from where she graduated with a degree in neuroscience.

Writing her first song at the age of 11, she showed a keen talent for music. Her passion for music ran alongside her studies while at university, where she continued to write and perform at gigs across Glasgow, honing her talent.
