The University of Sunderland is delighted to announce that Professor Laura Stroud is joining the University as the new Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Health Sciences and Wellbeing.

Laura is currently Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Leeds and Professor of Public Health and Education Innovation.

Laura comes with a vast range of knowledge and experience across research and teaching in the health sciences.

On joining the University, Laura said: “I am delighted to be joining such a vibrant university as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Faculty. I am inspired by the values and commitment to making a life-changing difference through research, multi-professional education and training, that I have both seen and heard expressed by the people I have met over the last few months.

“I now look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in my first few weeks. Do stop and say hello if you see me.”

Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University, Sir David Bell, said: “In recruiting Professor Laura Stroud to the University of Sunderland, we have been very fortunate indeed to acquire a colleague who has an outstanding track record in health and medical education.

“With Laura’s success over many years at the University of Leeds, coupled with the opportunities presented in the recently published NHS long-term workforce plan, we could not have asked for a better person to lead the Faculty at this exciting point in its history and development.

“As a senior member of staff at Leeds, Laura will also bring her significant experience to Sunderland and strengthen our Senior Leadership Board. We look forward to working with her in the months and years to come.”

Laura will begin her role as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Health Sciences and Wellbeing on 2 October 2023.
