We’ve recently added to our portfolio of Health Sciences and Wellbeing courses by introducing Certificate of Higher Education Health. This is a highly specialised and exciting course designed for military personnel, Service Leavers, veterans and their families who wish to expand their existing knowledge and experience.

Successful completion of this nationally recognised qualification allows our students to progress onto a full-time healthcare degree with a variety of employment opportunities.

What is the Certificate of Higher Education Health?

The Certificate of Higher Education – Health is a Level 4 qualification and is nationally recognised. Our exciting new course is full-time, with a duration of 52 weeks, and can be completed from anywhere in the world as it is a distance-learning course. We also provide support face to face at our Sunderland campus and Catterick Garrison if needed.

Our course aims to build on your existing knowledge and experiences, which is desirable to future employers. Furthermore, upon successful completion of the course, you will be able to progress onto a health-related honours degree or work in a healthcare setting.

Who is the Certificate of Higher Education Health for?

Our course has been created for serving military personnel, Service Leavers, veterans and their families. Each module within the course has an underpinning healthcare focus, which utilises your highly valuable military healthcare experience.

The Certificate of Higher Education Health is supported by the Defence Military Academy, and you will be taught and supported by veterans and reservists who are academics at the university. This qualification has been designed to ensure the needs of service personnel, both active and retired, are taken into account. Your previous military experience will be considered for entry to this programme.

You may also be eligible for funding support if you choose to study the Certificate of Higher Education Health is also eligible for funding support. For example, if you currently serve (or have recently served) within the Armed Forces, then the Ministry of Defence's ELCAS scheme may be able to help cover your funding for this course. For more information, see our Funding for Armed Forces personnel page. Furthermore, you may be eligible to receive help with funding your studies through schemes such as:

  • Service Leavers Scheme
  • Armed Forces Bereavement Scheme
  • Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme

At present, we are also the only Higher Education Institute that offers a military-focused Certificate of Higher Education, uniquely delivered through a blended learning approach.
