Incoming study abroad

Complete all sections of the relevant application forms:

• One semester direct students
• One semester exchange students.

As part of the application process, you'll also need to provide:

• All the requested supporting documentation, including an official transcript and a copy of your passport (see application form for full details)
• If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence of your English language level (see application form for full details).

Once you've completed all the steps, you can submit your application online via the portal.

If you're an exchange student, you must also be nominated by your home university. Ask them to send any nomination details to study.abroad@sunderland.ac.uk.

Our Study Abroad team will help you select from a range of carefully designed modules that align closely with your home course of study. We'll guide you through the international credit transfer process, helping you select compatible modules for a seamless transfer to your home university.

When studying at Sunderland, you'll be required to take a minimum of 60 credits per semester. We offer a vast range of modules across many subject areas.

Sunderland is an affordable city with a low cost of living. Examples of what your expenses might look like for a semester are:

• If you're a fee-paying student, tuition fees for your study abroad – £5,000
• Accommodation – £2,200
• Food and dining out – £1,300
• Books and equipment – £150
• Personal and miscellaneous – £1,000.

The University recommends that all students studying abroad with us take out a relevant travel insurance policy. Insurance fees will vary depending on the student and coverage level. If you're studying for one semester only, you may not be able to open a UK bank account, and you'll need access to your funds upon your arrival.
