The MBA (Sports Management) route allows you to tailor your studies and prepare for a career in sporting events or sports venue management. Whether you're a keen sports enthusiast looking to study business in a way that interests you, or someone looking to become a leader in the sports industry, our specialist route will give you the skills to succeed.
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is the flagship course within the School of Business and Management. The course will make you a leader of business, focusing on your professional development in leadership, international business, digital skills, and sustainability.
Our modules have been developed in partnership with employers, making our course about much more than just what’s in the textbook. Through inspiring guest speakers, group challenges, regular social events, and opportunities to impact local industries, you’ll become a member of a diverse community of aspiring leaders able to face the challenges of 21st century business.
The MBA (Sports Management) is part of the South Shields FC International Academy programme.
You’ll study two modules per semester and complete an individual research project. Each module is fully supported by an online learning environment where you'll access all the materials you need. You’ll attend weekly seminars where you come together to explore the module topics with fellow aspiring leaders and real industry practitioners.
You'll submit an assessment for each module to ensure you can progress. Assessments are coursework-based and take a variety of forms. From written reports, to academic posters, each assignment will test your ability to apply your learning in the classroom to real-world problems. The course culminates with a research project, which is a single, major piece of work on a topic of your choosing.

This course is designed to support career acceleration for suitably academically qualified applicants. All levels of practical work/work experience will be considered including applications from candidates with pre-graduation or limited/no work experience post-degree who can display that they'll benefit from a course of this type.
We require an honours degree of a minimum 2:2 or above from a recognised Higher Education institution or equivalent from a recognised overseas institution.

2024/25 fees are:
*European Union (EU), EEA (European Economic Area), and Swiss nationals who don't qualify for the EU Settlement Scheme are classed as international, however, for 24/25 admission, you'll receive a European student fee scholarship and will pay the home tuition fee rate for the duration of your studies. As the premier qualification in business, an MBA will prepare you for senior management in any type of organisation. Our graduates are now working in a variety of industries from licensed retail to manufacturing. Many students also go on to open their own businesses.
An MBA in Sports Management will help you prepare for a management career in sporting events or sports venue management, as well as senior roles in various related areas.
If you're on the South Shields FC International Academy programme, you'll train with South Shields FC Academy alongside your studies.
The Faculty of Business, Law and Tourism also offers international mobility opportunities and you'll have the opportunity, visa permitting, to take advantage of our extensive international links for study abroad, or shorter opportunities such as summer programmes.
We also run a guest speaker series, inviting senior business leaders from around the world to share their experiences with students, such as Mike Clasper, Chairman of SSP Group PLC and BIOSS consulting.
