About Deborah Heatlie
I am a Senior Lecturer in Healthcare Science, and Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) registered Clinical Physiologist (Audiology) with over 25 years’ experience in NHS practice. I am also a registered Hearing Aid Dispenser with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Prior to joining the University of Sunderland, I held a Principal Audiologist role which incorporated a significant clinical workload of audiometric assessment and rehabilitation across all age ranges. I also had an active role in training, supporting, and assessing degree students on placement and learners enrolled on apprenticeships in the department.
In addition to my teaching role at the University, I have an honorary contract in a local NHS Audiology department, which allows me to maintain clinical knowledge and skills in the field.
I hold an undergraduate degree in Applied Physiology from the University of Sunderland and a master’s degree in Rehabilitative Audiology from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. I have also been awarded a Higher Certificate of Clinical Competence in Paediatric Audiological Assessment by the British Academy of Audiology.
