Lecturer in Ceramics

I have been working with glass and ceramics for over 20 years. After graduating from my first degree, I worked in the glass industry for nine years, returning to clay and ceramics at the University of Sunderland 14 years ago.

I completed a Master of Arts with distinction in 2005. In 2007, I began establishing partnerships between the University of Sunderland and various Fair-Trade organisations. I have delivered workshops and undertaken University supported consultancies in India and Peru. I am regularly consulted by Potteries in Vietnam and Africa.

Teaching and supervision

I lecture in ceramics BA (Hons) Glass and Ceramics, as well as in glass and ceramics on MA Glass and Ceramics. I have taught ceramics to students at all levels and have delivered workshops to the public in a diverse range of learning environments.

Research

My research and interests include teaching, community work, design/technical consultancy and creative ceramic practice.

I also work from my own studio, making thrown and sculptural porcelain. My work is centred on thrown porcelain which is often printed with enamels and decals.
