Senior Technician Darkroom Photography

While I have knowledge and experience across both digital and analogue photography, my role mainly focuses on analogue and alternative photographic processes and studio techniques.

I provide specialist support, demonstrations, advice, and guidance to staff, students, and visiting artists regarding technical problems relating to darkroom and film processing, alternative print processes, studio use, camera, and lighting techniques.

I ensure that the photography department adheres to health and safety legislation and best practice with the handling of chemicals.

Teaching and supervision

  • Negative and print processing for black and white and colour photography
  • Advance darkroom printing techniques
  • Alternative processes including Cyanotype and Argyrotype
  • Studio lighting
  • Digital capture
  • Camera techniques
  • Exhibition installation

I have a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from University of Leeds, where for many years I worked in the arts before gaining an MA in Photography from Nottingham Trent University and then becoming a Phase One Certified Professional. I have over nine years of experience as a Photographic Technician for West Yorkshire Police, Northern School of Art, and University of Sunderland.

In addition to my experience in photography, I am an accredited PASMA and IPAF operator and a CITB-certified site supervisor with extensive experience in construction, exhibition installation, and project facilitation in the arts.
