Programme Leader Social Media Management, Video Journalism Lecturer (Sabbatical)

I am an award-winning online video journalist and content creator. I've produced videos for Sky, the Guardian, the Telegraph, Daily Mail and Good Morning Britain. I also spent two years working on Sky's regional video news project Sky Tyne and Wear.

I am interested in digital storytelling, social media content creation, verification and analytics and online community management.

Teaching and supervision

I am Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Social Media Management – a degree I helped to launch focusing on creating and sharing content and analysing and engaging online communities. I also teach video journalism across undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.

I introduced video journalism teaching to the journalism suite of courses, and started a live radio and TV news programme with students called Word on Wearside.

Research interests for potential research students

My research interests focus on the use of new technologies in journalism including 360 and VR, the growth of social media roles in industry and the use of analytics for journalism.
Online video journalism.
