Associate Professor in Environmental Psychology

I am an Environmental Psychologist researching how built and natural environments impact psychological behaviour, health, and wellbeing. I am a chartered member of the British Psychological Society and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Teaching and supervision

My teaching focuses on specialist modules in Environmental Psychology (Level 6) and professional skills and advanced quantitative research methods on MSc Psychological Research Methods. I also regularly supervise PhD students, as well as undergraduate and masters research projects. Previously, I contributed to undergraduate research methods and social psychology. I was also module leader for psychology in the media, focusing on the influence of the media on our behaviour and the professional responsibilities of psychologists to interact with the media.

Research interests for potential research students

I welcome applications from postgraduate research students in all areas of Environmental Psychology. My specific interests are in the influence of built and natural environments on our health, wellbeing, and the development of our identity. Recent projects include the exploration of the potential of a range of “positive” places as health-promotion resources and the influence of place identity on the perception of natural or urban environments to improve our mood and cognition.
