Nearly 300 students at the University of Sunderland in Hong Kong (UoSiHK) are celebrating their graduations.

The Hong Kong graduation ceremony took place on Sunday 10 December, with 290 graduates attending from both the UoSiHK campus and the University's TNE partner, Hong Kong College of Technology (HKCT).

The graduation was officiated by the University's Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Sir David Bell, who said: "I was delighted to be back at a graduation ceremony in Hong Kong for the first time since 2019. The excitement and enthusiasm of our newest graduates was infectious, and it was an honour and privilege to be with them and their families and friends on such an exciting day in their lives.

"At the same time, I was able to thank our staff for the outstanding work they do in ‘flying the flag’ for the University of Sunderland and providing outstanding opportunities to those who want to acquire one of our highly prestigious qualifications.

“Ours is a truly global University, with over 25,600 students world-wide, and a presence in around 20 countries. The work we do worldwide stands symbolises the unifying power of learning and the bonds of solidarity it creates between, and among, peoples in so many different countries.”

Also in attendance were the University's Chair of the Board of Governors, Farooq Hakim, Academic Dean of the Faculty of Business, Law and Tourism, Professor Lawrence Bellamy, and Director of International, Ian Moody.

Ian said: “As always, it was a pleasure to attend our graduation ceremony in Hong Kong and celebrate the amazing achievements of our graduates. It was a fantastic day and special thanks goes to our Campus Director, Mr Francis Chiang, and his team for their organisation of such a great event."

After the ceremony, Sir David and Ian travelled to Beijing to meet with the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) and representatives of the British Embassy to further strengthen University links in the region.
