Academic publishing and open access compliance

Open research aims to make the process of research open to all levels of society, increasing the impact, effectiveness and reproducibility of scholarly research.

Open Research

The University of Sunderland supports Open Research and encourages our research community to explore the potential of using open practices.

The University has an Open Access Mandate which requires researchers to deposit the accepted manuscript of any peer reviewed journal or conference proceeding within the institutional repository (SURE), within 3 months of acceptance for publication. The University also strongly encourages the deposit of other scholarly outputs such as monographs, reports and practice based or creative work.

The University mandates the Open Access deposit of all PhD theses in SURE as a condition of graduation.

Staff are encouraged to share their research data or code and discuss their needs with us and draw on available support.
