The Paramedic Society

A student-led society for ‘Future Paramedics’, the Paramedic Society want to help you learn new skills and meet new people during your time at University. Although advertised as an academic society, the Paramedic Society is inclusive of all paramedic students, alumni, and other health care students. The society regularly hold numerous CPD events, simulations and social events to help you build as an individual and as a student health care professional, as well as social events such as quizzes between the medical and nursing society, and recent talks by influential figures across all pillars of pre-hospital care.

Society president Jess Prentice says “When we restarted in 2022, our main goal was to provide opportunities to all paramedic students; ever since we have grown in memberships and attendance, and we have begun aiming for so much more. Our current ambition is to focus on building awareness of an under-represented profession, and to celebrate hard work of current paramedic students and alumni alike across the North East – and beyond”

The Physiotherapy Society

The Physiotherapy Society was created this academic year and has only been running since December. In this time, they have helped with CPD for the students, as well as running a sports massage course to allow students to be qualified sports massage therapists helping with their Musculoskeletal work. The society has also run a Sports First Aid course to enable students interested in sports to help with the local sports clubs' pitch-side medical care. In the future, they look to organise a Physiotherapy Ball and create their own identity on campus with some physiotherapy kit.

President of the Physiotherapy Society Hannah Rose Watson says "I am proud of what the committee and myself have achieved this year with the society, and I look forward to what the future brings with the society."
