Immigration Information

The UK Government has introduced a new immigration system known as Points Based System (PBS).  It is controlled by the UK Border Agency (UKBA), a department of the Home Office and affects all international students from outside the European Economic Area  coming to study in the UK from April 2009.

Our Visa Information Sheet gives some basic guidance on your visa options here in the UK.

Students who are coming to study in the UK for more than six months and are not an EEA/Swiss or British national must apply for the Tier 4 Adult Student Visa before travelling to the UK.

If you are coming to study for less than six months you can apply as a student visitor however this visa cannot be extended beyond six months and will not allow you to undertake any kind of work or internship (paid or unpaid) in the UK. If you intend to work or extend your stay beyond 6 months you must apply for the Tier 4 Adult Student Visa before travelling to the UK.

Information and regulations on entry to the UK are frequently changing and it is always recommended that you check the UK Borders Agency on a regular basis. For a full eligibility criteria see the student visitor section on the UKBA website.
