The University of Sunderland came highly recommended by my lecturers at college, they had great links with the University, and it felt like a very welcoming environment. After visiting the campus on an Open Day and hearing more about the different opportunities, such as working overseas, I was excited to apply. The University is also based in my hometown so it’s accessible for me, and I didn’t have to move house to study the course.
The most memorable part of my time here was during my top-up course, when I had the opportunity to travel to New York on a field trip. I was lucky enough to explore the amazing city with other students and our lecturers and carry out my own project. I also really enjoyed visiting Durham Lumiere as part of the Digital Technologies Module. For the module’s innovative assessment, I created a digital communications marketing strategy for the event, and this showed me just some of the ways that the University has developed my skills and knowledge overall.
If I could offer one piece of advice to future students at the University of Sunderland it would be to challenge yourself and never give up. It can feel like the workload is daunting but you’ll surprise yourself and it’ll definitely be worth it in the end.
Overall, I believe my time at the University has allowed me to develop in ways I’d never thought were possible. I’ve grown my academic, professional and individual abilities as well. I’ve had some of the most supportive lecturers who have equipped me with the skills and knowledge needed to progress and I know that they are always just a message away, whether I’m a current student, graduate or alumni."
