Case Study

Aaron Day

Stevenage, UK

BA (Hons) Film and Media

Aaron Day knew he wanted to pursue his passion for film studies and video production and the University of Sunderland provided the right course for him to do just that. He now lives and works in the North East after falling in love with the region during his studies.

I knew that I wanted to pursue my passion for film studies and video production and university was a no-brainer for me; I would get to meet like-minded people who had similar passions to me. I wanted to go to a university that would allow me to study both film and media, and that was in a city well away from where I grew up. At the time of applying, The University of Sunderland had been voted as the Best New University AND provided the right course for me, so I applied!

The course was excellent and I built great relationships with staff and students alike. Studying at the University of Sunderland has given me the tools, skills and confidence to thrive in life. I now work in project management at a secondary school and still use a great deal of the skills I learned on my course, combining it effectively with my love of teaching and education.

I would advise other students to jump in with two feet, try new things, join as many clubs and societies as you can. Your university experience is what you of make it – don’t wait for it to be handed to you on a plate.

Sunderland was a game-changer for me; after my studies I’ve chosen to stay in the North East because the University helped me fall in love with the people of this great region!"
