Visit fantastic locations

Field trips are a brilliant opportunity for you to put the ideas that you've learnt in the classroom into practice. You'll go on visits from your first year at university, allowing you to make friends and build up a community within your cohort. Our residential field trips are often to national and international locations and you'll be able to network with industry professionals and gain invaluable insight into different elements of hospitality and tourism.

Visits are often structured similarly to your academic studies, and you'll be expected to carry out different research elements such as observations and questionnaires to ensure you gain valuable experience in the field. Each year, we venture to exciting destinations to discover more about how events are run and how cities are developed.

Previous field trips have included international locations such as Prague, Barcelona, and New York, and national locations such as Whitby, York, and Kielder Water.

Kielder Water

Our partnership with Kielder Water allows Hospitality, Events, Aviation and Tourism students visit the site each year as part of the Consultancy for the Visitor Economy module.

Here, you'll gain fantastic insight into how the business is developing and operating and work on a live consultancy project in conjunction with the management team. The team at Kielder Water are passionate about supporting your progression as an industry professional and it's also an excellent opportunity for them to gain access to current trends in academia and the industry, and consider new ways of thinking.

Study abroad

We know that as a hospitality and tourism student, you may be interested in travelling and exploring different locations and cultures, so we provide the opportunity for you to choose to study abroad as part of your degree.

The University of Sunderland has exchange partnerships with universities across the globe in locations such as the USA, Canada, Australia, and South Korea. Spending time studying abroad is a fantastic chance to explore a different country and experience alternative approaches to learning.
