Matty Gray, Fashion, Design and Promotion graduate, visited final year fashion students at the University of Sunderland last week to provide expert industry advice.

Matty graduated from Sunderland with a First-Class degree in BA (Hons) Fashion, Design and Promotion in 2021. Originally from Newcastle, Matty started out studying Pharmacy at the University but found his true calling when he switched to Fashion after his first year. His final year collection for the University's Degree Shows was inspired by sustainability and he dyed his fabrics with fruits, vegetables, and plants.

Commenting on his recent visit, Mandy Rose Panesh, Technical Demonstrator Fashion at the University of Sunderland, said, “We were delighted to have the very lovely Sunderland fashion graduate Matty Gray with us.

“Gracing us with his presence, he shared his success story from Sunderland to Manchester and then onto London, working as an Outerwear Designer for labels such as F&F and Zara.

“Our final year students all had the opportunity to pitch their current projects to Matty and receive bespoke industry led feedback from him.

“Such a valuable experience for them, from someone who once was in their very shoes.”

Matty is currently Outerwear Designer at Li & Fung, based in London.
