Craig Symons

Houghton-Le-Spring, UK

LLB (Hons) Law with Integrated Foundation Year

Craig Symons wanted to pursue a new career that would challenge him after leaving the Army. He chose to study the LLB (Hons) Law with Integrated Foundation Year course at the University of Sunderland after reading positive reviews about the course and the facilities. His future aim is to become a qualified barrister.

I had spent nine years in the British Army (4th Regiment Royal Artillery) and after leaving I wanted to pursue a career that would challenge me and reward the effort that is put in. I chose the University of Sunderland after reading positive reviews about the course I am studying, as well as the facilities on campus.

The law components that are taught on the LLB (Hons) Law with Integrated Foundation Year course are extremely interesting, including the social theories that law originated from. I really enjoy the freedom you get to study in your own time as well as the knowledge and support I receive from the tutors within the University. If I was to advise any prospective students, I would say get a study plan in place before starting and try your best to be autonomous. My future aims are to progress onto the LLB (Hons) Law course, and then become a qualified barrister after that.

I would recommend the University of Sunderland to any young or mature student, and other people who are ex-armed forces.”
