Case Study

Syed Ahmed

Sunderland

LLB Law

Since achieving a First Class Honours degree in Law and going on to successfully complete his Masters and Legal Practice Course, Syed’s career has developed drastically. He secured employment in one of the largest criminal firms in the North East and now has a long-term goal to become a partner in a recognised law firm.

The University of Sunderland is local to me so it was always a place I considered studying at. Having done some research on the University itself, I established that it was one of the best universities with a tremendous reputation nationally and internationally.

I chose to enrol at university due to wanting a change of career paths. I wanted to be the first in my family to get a degree and graduate. I felt that going to university would allow me to get to my end goal. Before studying, I managed a family-run business in the food industry, together with a part-time call centre job.

The best aspect of the Law course at Sunderland was the standard of teaching. The course is taught by lecturers that continue to practice law and teach at the same time. The support throughout is amazing. The Law Clinic is also a significant aspect of the course; this allows you to deal with real-life clients and prepares you for the outside world.

I would absolutely recommend the University of Sunderland to all students that wish to study, not only Law, but other subjects. The teaching there is excellent and staff are very supportive both academically and personally. I not only made great friends, but also managed to attain a First Class degree. I’ve had a fantastic experience and achieved everything I hoped for and more.

My advice to future students would be don’t hold back and go and achieve your dreams. It’s a great university to study at and you will get the degree you want if you have the correct mindset. Everything is achievable!"
