Your network

You'll gain so much from your time at university. One thing not to be overlooked is the extensive network of academics and industry professionals you'll meet during your time with us.

Three people networking

Networking at Sunderland Business School

Our academic staff within the School of Business and Management come from a variety of industries, from human resources, to marketing, and finance. The team bring their specialisms directly into the classroom and use them to inform their teaching and research. They also use their industry knowledge to offer crucial career advice and guidance to help you get to where you want to go.

Many of our teaching team have retained and continue to foster strong links with industry, and some of our staff are still active in business in consulting roles. As a student, this can be particularly beneficial to you when you're searching for work experience placements and even after graduation when you're embarking on your career.

We've also established our curriculum based on extensive feedback from our students and employers. All of our modules are linked to industry to ensure that you benefit from the wealth of experience our industry links provide.

Building a local, national and international community

We welcome students from many countries across the world to the School of Business and Management. We foster a warm and welcoming community where you'll have the opportunity to meet like-minded people and learn from your peers bringing experience from a variety of different countries and backgrounds.

As part of your student experience, you'll also be able to attend exciting extra-curricular events or volunteering opportunities, or get involved in the Sunderland Students Union and join a society that matches your interests.

Guest speaker programme

Each year the Faculty of Business, Law and Tourism draws together an exciting programme of guest speakers to share their stories with staff and students.

The advice offered by leading industry professionals is invaluable, and previous speakers have included; Divine Chocolate’s Head of Sales and Marketing; Sunderland Association Football Club’s CEO; Mike Johnson CEO of Castrol and Executive Vice President of BP; and Neil Stephenson, CEO of ONYX as well as other representatives from a number of our region’s largest employers.

We've also welcomed back previous students to give guest lectures, having kept in touch with them on their career journeys via our alumni development team.

The Marketing Hub

The Marketing Hub is a fantastic opportunity for students studying either the BA Business and Marketing Management, BA Marketing or MA Marketing courses to work as part of a fully-serviced marketing agency.

You'll work alongside your classmates to solve real-world marketing problems, and in some cases, compete in local and national competitions with students from across the country. The Hub allows you to network with local businesses, and build up key relationships that are beneficial to your career prospects and experience.
