What’s a CIM accreditation and why does it matter?

The marketing industry is exciting, fast-paced and always evolving. To give you the best possible foundations our marketing courses have been designed to teach you the skills needed to get started in the sector. As part of this we have applied for, and secured accreditation for all our marketing courses by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).

Curriculum transformation

Over the last few years our Faculty of Business, Law and Tourism has gone through a significant curriculum-transformation. We’ve made the changes as a direct result of feedback both from our students and from employers in the industry. One of the biggest changes has included a more significant focus on work-based learning and applying theory into real-world practice. Our students now lead on marketing projects, placements and consultancies throughout their study.

The new Sunderland Marketing Hub is also up-and-running and will be welcoming businesses, students and academics to work together on real-life projects. The Marketing Hub offers a range of benefits for participants including networking, mentoring and guidance.

Why study a CIM accredited degree?

As part of this transformation, we’ve secured accreditation from The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) for all our marketing degrees. This includes:

As part of our accreditation, students who study on our marketing courses will also gain exemptions from professional CIM qualifications. They’ll now only need to pass one module to complete the CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing or Professional Digital Marketing or two modules to complete the CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing or Professional Digital Marketing. For those looking to enhance their marketing qualifications, this saves on time and financial cost.

We all know that the job market today is highly competitive, and graduates are always searching for new ways to make themselves and their CV stand out. A CIM accredited degree, and a professional qualification are both impressive enhancements.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing is internationally recognised and respected and institutions are required to meet rigorous standards before being granted accreditation. Our suite of marketing courses receiving the accreditation reflects the hard work we’ve put in to make sure our degree courses are modern, relevant and preparing students for industry. An extra bonus of the accreditation is that students will gain access to exclusive webinars, available only to CIM members.

"Experiential learning opportunities for our students is a priority and this led to the development of the Sunderland Marketing Hub, Marketing Matters series, and our extensive work with professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing."

Dr. Yvonne Dixon–Todd, Head of School of Business and Management
