Case Study

I started my nursing career working in a small rural clinic for a year. My daily routine included greeting new patients, guiding medicine, and collaborating with doctors on treatments. During the COVID-19 pandemic I was still working in the clinic as there were many people who suffered injuries or illnesses that they couldn’t manage on their own. They didn’t want to go to hospital due to the pandemic, so my colleagues and I continued helping them.

I was keen to expand on my knowledge of the profession, so a close friend suggested I join her on the MSc Nursing course at the University of Sunderland. The course content gave me a big surprise because before now, the nursing courses I’ve studied were all about specific diseases and how to deal with the patients as a nurse. I never expected I would be learning the modules of business and education, like leadership and management, as well as teaching and learning. This is essential and practical for an individual to go further in the nursing profession. The teaching staff are all brilliant, responsible, and devoted.  

Once I graduate, I hope to continue to work as a nurse in the UK, and I will be applying for roles in a care home initially as I prepare for my exams. My advice to other overseas students thinking of studying at Sunderland is to make use of the resources in terms of studying and career support. 

I would certainly recommend the MSc Nursing degree to others as the course content is really good. The cost of living in Sunderland is low and the city is really rural and peaceful, which is great for studying and enjoying life."
