BSc (Hons) International Tourism and Hospitality Management

Thao was studying in the Czech Republic when she decided to get a higher degree and further improve her English. She chose the University of Sunderland as our BSc (Hons) International Tourism and Hospitality course allowed her to combine both of her passions.

I was studying in the Czech Republic when I decided to continue in my studies, get a higher degree and improve my English. I chose to study at the University of Sunderland because there are many combinations of courses students can choose. I did not want to study just Tourism, so I combined it with Hospitality Management. The course I chose is lead by lecturers who have worked in the industry and have a lot of experience to share with students. Plus, there are opportunities to study abroad or apply for a placement in your chosen industry, as well as local or international field trips.

I would highly recommend the University to other students as it offers everything from different kind of courses, student accommodation, student advice and financial support, to graduate scheme programmes and social activities. The Students' Union can help new students to settle in and show them around the campuses.

My advice to future students is to go to an open day and ask current students about their experience. Don’t forget to ask what scholarships you can apply for and what sports clubs or societies you can join- don’t be afraid of new challenges in your life!

I got a chance to work in the food and beverage department of The Landmark London Hotel as part of a year placement, which was amazing and out of my comfort zone. Next on my career path, I would like to take a challenge and put myself in the front office.

Studying at the University of Sunderland was the best decision of my life. I wanted to move to a different place, learn something new, make friends and take as many opportunities as I could. I have made friends for life and gained the knowledge I was looking for."
