Before coming to university, I was studying Textiles, Business and ICT at Sixth Form. I chose to study at Sunderland because the BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Promotion course was not just Fashion Design or Fashion Marketing, it explored every part of fashion. The exploration of the different niches of fashion such as branding and print design was appealing to me, as at Sixth Form I was just doing textiles designing so I knew that by studying at Sunderland every semester was going to different and new.
The best aspect of the course is the different modules; from branding, designing and garment construction to print design, styling and event planning. You get a feel for all the different areas of fashion, which you can focus in on during your Final Major Project. The different areas also help you realise what your niche is, which you may have been uncertain of when first starting the course.
I would recommend the University of Sunderland to other students because the course is unlike any other. Other universities have Fashion Design or Fashion Marketing courses, but this university has all of that and more. There will be some modules you’ll love and others you might not like as much but it’s worth it in the end when you have free rein to choose the parts of the course you like for your Final Major Project.
My future career aims are to work in fashion design so I am currently looking for relevant jobs. Maybe one day I might start my own company but right now I want to continue to learn in the industry.
My experience at university has been challenging but worth it. I have enjoyed my time here, I am proud of the projects I have made and the skills I have learnt. I feel ready for the next stages of my life.”
