Sunderland Media Library – Medial

What is it?

The Sunderland Media Library, powered by Medial, is a video and audio hosting system owned and hosted by the University. Offering similar functionality to YouTube and Vimeo, but with the security and benefits of being wholly owned and operated by the University's CELT. Using Medial you can upload and share video and audio files which students can watch on their own computers, phones or tablets.

How can it help me?

Medial gives you a media library which is safe, secure, and free from issues of ownership which arise when using external services such as YouTube or Vimeo. It can be used for hosting both video and audio files, and subtitles can be added for accessibility. Media files hosted on Medial can also be embedded into Canvas and onto webpages. Whatever format you record your media in, Medial will convert it a modern streaming format accessible on almost all devices, particularly important in today's mobile world.

How can I find out more?

The Sunderland Media Library is managed by CELT and we can arrange access to the system for you, help you with uploading and managing your medial files, and provide training on all aspects of the system. CELT also have access to high quality media recording equipment and can film special learning events upon request and depending on our capacity. We also have the audio and video editing and post-processing skills within the team.
