Olivia Charlton

Washington, UK

BSc (Hons) Criminology with Integrated Foundation Year

Olivia Charlton came back into education after three years working full-time. She has really enjoyed her experience at Sunderland so far, particularly the interactive lessons and support offered from tutors. After she completes her Integrated Foundation Year and full undergraduate degree she hopes to enter the police force.

I chose to study at the University of Sunderland due to its very highly regarded reputation and the fact that it offered the opportunity of an Integrated Foundation Year. I had taken a few years out of education, having worked full-time for three years, before deciding to come back and retrain.

The best part of the BSc (Hons) Criminology with Integrated Foundation Year course is the interactive lessons. Working together in groups and sharing ideas has really helped me expand my knowledge. Plus, the level of support and guidance available from the tutors is second to none – no problem is ever too big.

If you're thinking of going back into education, go in with an open mind and make sure that the course being offered is the right one for you. Make sure you understand the requirements and what the university can offer you. After I complete the foundation year and progress onto the full undergraduate degree, I hope to enter the police force after graduation.

I have had a very supportive and positive experience with the University so far. I have really appreciated the support that has been given. My experience has been daunting at times, but overall it has been very enjoyable and enlightening.”
