Case Study

Yi Wen Chin

Penang, Malaysia

BA (Hons) Childhood and Society Studies (Top-Up)

Yi Wen Chin was working in a nursery and preschool while working on her Diploma in Early Childhood Education. She was motivated to continue her education at the University of Sunderland after hearing several positive recommendations.

Before coming to university, I was completing my Diploma study (Diploma in Early Childhood Education) and working in a nursery as well as a preschool. Throughout the time I was working, I had realised the importance of early years professionals impacting children’s development. This motivated me to provide quality services to children and families by pursuing Higher Education.

The University of Sunderland was highly recommended to me by people around me. Upon reading the student case studies, I was convinced that the University was my first choice.

I was introduced to many theories and theorists that I had never stumbled upon when I was doing my Diploma study, and this enabled me to gain better insight into the field. It also expanded my horizons by allowing me to view different issues from different perspectives.

I would recommend the University of Sunderland to other students, without a doubt. The lecturers and staff are very friendly and helpful, and it really is an amazing experience.

Once I graduate, I am aiming to work in well-established organisations which work well with children and families. I hope to be able to use the knowledge that I have obtained at university in my career. After working under some organisations for a few years to gain experience, I hope to be able to plan some programmes for nurseries and preschools to aid children’s development.”
