I have been interested in crime and criminality for as long as I can remember and after taking a break from education, I decided to study Criminology. From day one at the University of Sunderland, the lecturers have been so welcoming, making life at university enjoyable.
The lecturers are passionate about the areas they teach and adapt the modules to current issues within society and the ability to pick modules that interests me is a bonus. Also, there have been a variety of opportunities throughout the course. For example, there have been opportunities to visit the courts and a prison. Through the placement module, I got to work out in the field in a local charity that helps young people, where I continue to volunteer. I also became a student representative, which allows me to express the voice of the whole course, which the lecturers appreciate.
I would recommend University of Sunderland as the facilities are great and the lecturers are extremely helpful, offering as much support as possible. I believe that the Criminology course has changed my way of thinking, opening up my perspective of society as a whole.
Once I graduate, I aspire to work within the prison system and I am currently in the application process of volunteering at NEPACS, a charity that supports offenders and their families, which I believe will assist me in achieving my career aims.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the University of Sunderland and look forward to my final year!"
