Case Study

I started my career as a second English teacher in a preschool, then I worked as a shadow teacher and teaching assistant in an international school. I am currently working as a learning support teacher and want to be a SEN specialist, so I started looking for a PgCert in special educational needs. I found the University of Sunderland online and the team were so supportive; when I sent them an enquiry I received a reply straight away. The system to pay your fees is flexible and the way technology works today means that it feels like face to face study.

For me, everything I'm learning on the course is a new experience. I'm not taking a course just to gain a degree; I really want to understand more about special educational needs and I really enjoy the lectures. I'm also enjoying the process of the research, reading, and creating a project related to special educational needs. I have received a lot of support from my tutor who is so helpful and flexible. If I need any help or have any questions I can talk to them, and in the final project they're supporting me with feedback, discussions and providing reading resources to help me more.

Studying at the University of Sunderland has been a great experience. I have learned a lot about SEN, how to create a plan, gather information and find out about different topics. I am hoping to continue my studies and enrol onto a master's degree at Sunderland after I graduate and I'm aiming to work as a SEN specialist in the United Nations one day.”
