PGCE English Secondary Education

Lorraine Jolley studied for her undergraduate degree here at the University of Sunderland, graduating from BA (Hons) English Studies. She wanted to progress in her career and decided to study for a PGCE to enable her to become a teacher. Her career plan is to become a secondary school English teacher after graduation.

I studied for my undergraduate degree in English at Sunderland and chose to complete my PGCE here too as, being from Sunderland, it was local to me. I had been working in a secondary school for 13 years and knew that in order to progress in my career, I needed to complete a PGCE to become a teacher.

The PGCE English Secondary Education is very enjoyable. I really enjoy the research and analysis aspects of the course and studying the principles of teacher training.

I’d definitely recommend the University of Sunderland to others and would advise prospective students to just go for it! It doesn’t matter how old you are, there is always room for improvement. What better way is there to receive constructive feedback to improve yourself, than to take on a degree and work with professional tutors?

I'm due to graduate soon and I hope to find employment as a secondary school English teacher. Studying at the University of Sunderland is the best thing I have ever done.”
