PGCE Education (DL)

Daniel Moxham was teaching kindergarten classes in Shenyang, China. He was looking to study a PGCE online via distance learning, and found the PGCE Education (DL) at Sunderland allowed him to explore education theory through his practice.

I was looking to further my career in education by studying a PGCE at a top university. The University of Sunderland’s PGCE Education course has allowed me to assess myself and the strategies that I use in the classroom. I have enjoyed applying the theory directly to my practical teaching and I feel that I have improved as a teacher because of this course! I've recommended it to everyone I know who is in the field of education in China and looking to enhance their knowledge.

On reflection, I'd say that studying a PGCE whilst teaching full-time is not easy, but my advice to other students and applicants is that it will all be worth it in the end. What I have found to be the key to success is thorough planning and resourcefulness. Access to the library and online resources via Canvas, the Virtual Learning Environment, has been amazing, and I received brilliant support in the form of weekly meetings with my personal tutor too.

Since studying on this course, I have taken some fantastic strides in my career, including starting a new job in a bigger school. Studying the PGCE Education course has started opening doors for me in my career and I haven’t even finished it yet! It has not only furthered my career but enhanced my teaching ability.

My experience of studying on this course has been enlightening and I am very thankful for it. It has combined the perfect blend of theory and practice and helped me to see that, as a teacher, I am always improving."
