BSc (Hons) Sociology student Christina Richardson credits the University support services, lecturers and her Programme Leader as the reasons she managed to graduate from her course and progress to a master's degree.

Before my studies I was working in a call centre and I decided I wanted a career change. I wanted to do something where I could help people and I wanted something more challenging. I chose to study at the University of Sunderland because I had heard that the employment rate for graduates was high. I had also studied at Sunderland previously and was comfortable with the University.

You should definitely research your courses; I actually changed from Criminology to Sociology in my second year. I felt I enjoyed the Sociology modules more and my best subjects were within policy and research. I struggled a little in my second year due to the change in courses but I got through it thanks to the great support from lecturers. I received help from support services, lecturers and my Programme Leader for many reasons at university. The support network is brilliant and I couldn’t have done it without this.

Since graduating, my career is going really well. I started undergoing support work in supported accommodation. I have since received an unconditional offer to enrol onto the MSc Psychology at the University of Sunderland and I intend to join the probation service in the future. My master's course starts in September, and I'm really looking forward to it!

I would absolutely recommend the University of Sunderland! I already have to a friend who is now due to start in September on the BSc (Hons) Psychology with Integrated Foundation Year. Studying at Sunderland was like being at a theme park on the biggest roller coaster – there have been ups and downs along with scary moments, but there were many times where it all ran smoothly with lots of laughs along the way."
