I knew studying Sociology at Sunderland would develop my knowledge and help me to become a successful sociologist after I came to an Open Day, saw how passionate the lecturers were about the subject and how they genuinely wanted to help their students achieve. Their support and guidance was great, and they were happy to meet when I had a deadline approaching and needed help to source the right materials and construct my essays to get good grades.

My favourite part of the course was carrying out a research placement during my second year. This gave me first hand experience of being a social researcher which I thoroughly enjoyed; it was great being involved in all stages of a study in a subject I had great interest in.

Once I graduated from Sunderland, I decided to do a master's in sociology and social research at Newcastle. Once I graduated from my MA, I moved back to London and got a role as a research interviewer in a market research company. During my time in this position, I realised I still had an interest in the research industry but not as a researcher, so I decided to explore the operations side of research. My time at Sunderland studying research method modules and completing the methodologies of my studies also encouraged me to pursue a career in operations.

Studying at the University of Sunderland didn't just help me academically, it helped me grow as a person. I’ve become much more independent and I’ve made friends for life."
