I checked the University league tables for my course and noticed Sunderland was ranked high for Education. I then spoke to people who previously went to Sunderland and they explained to me how much they enjoyed the course and how supportive the staff was there.
I had interviews at Sunderland, Northumbria, and Durham and throughout the whole process, I found Sunderland was the only University that talked about what they could do for me and not just how brilliant they were.
During my course, I mostly enjoyed the active learning. I was given the opportunity in my lectures and seminars to use learning resources that I would go on to use in the classroom whilst teaching. It meant I could find out which resources I liked, and which ones I didn’t. This helped me to understand the sort of teacher I would become and how I preferred to teach children.
I would recommend the University of Sunderland to others who wish to teach. I loved my three years. I enjoyed all aspects of my course as well as the other extra-curricular activities available to all students at the University. While I studied I played for the University Rugby and Cricket Teams; the staff on my course were always supportive of all my needs including the times I was playing Rugby for the University.
I would tell prospective students to come to Sunderland! This place gave me an amazing three years which I couldn’t have found elsewhere. I would also tell students to make sure they enjoy their time at the University and take advantage of all the opportunities available to them - the three years go by so quickly so definitely make the most of it.”
