Megan Williams

MA Marketing

A vibrant and upbeat feeling at the University attracted MA Marketing graduate Megan Williams to Sunderland. The University turned Megan’s academic knowledge into practice and prepared her for the world of work as she went on to secure her first Marketing and Events role for a local water company.

I chose to study at the University due to being from the North East. The University had a friendly and family vibe and I felt like it was a home from home.

The Business School also had a great reputation for providing modules with relevant knowledge and practice for real-world work scenarios. This really appealed to me over several other universities.

The University also provided sufficient help in the offering of placements and postgraduate courses. I decided to remain at the University for my master’s degree due to the help and support from lecturers and staff (i.e. library) that were always willing to support your efforts.

The best aspects of the Marketing course include learning about branding, digital marketing, and consumer research – alongside important modules focusing on skills directly needed for the dissertation module.

I also had the opportunity of presenting at the Greggs Marketing Challenge – this really helped to give me presentation experience as I developed my confidence to perform in front of an audience, a panel of judges and receive and ask questions. All of this helped prepare me for my recent job interview too.

I would recommend the University of Sunderland due to the extensive range of courses and opportunities available. I have no regrets over my University decision and I can only thank the lecturers for their help and guidance which has helped me to gain my first professional job and a step on my career ladder! My advice would be to definitely apply to the University!"
