Tyrone Bishop

Brighton, UK

MA TESOL (DL)

Tyrone Bishop chose to study for the MA TESOL (DL) at Sunderland because of the course content and how easy it was to follow the course. Upon graduation, he gained employment in Baghdad, working for the Government. He is currently halfway through a PhD and runs a website with resources for students and teachers.

I had completed a CELTA and was teaching general English to young adults when I decided to study for the MA TESOL degree. I chose to study at Sunderland because of the course content and the ease and convenience with which one could follow the course, with it being delivered via distance learning. The mentorship you got from the staff, the interactive nature of the platform and the materials were world-class.

Since completing the MA TESOL (DL) course I have been able to embark on a PhD (which I am halfway through) and I’m also just finishing off an MA in Language Testing. Upon graduation, I gained employment on a defence/aerospace contract in Baghdad, working for the Government. I probably have the highest paid specialised English teaching job in the world at the current time. I was a pilot and I teach and test Aviation English. I also run a website with resources for students and teachers.

Would I recommend the University of Sunderland to other students? Absolutely! In fact, I have recommended it to people already. My time here was challenging, inspiring, very hard work, but well worth the effort if you want to improve your knowledge and skills to a very high level. This qualification will give you access to employment in management.”
